Customs change. Civilization survives.

I have already explained what I consider to be "civilized" in the context of individual rights and rationality. There are many things which I do not consider "civilzed" although they once were, and (for some) still are. Human sacrifice of first born children is one. Mayan sacrifices of teen-age girls is another. There are many more. In general, I consider societies not based on the concept of individual rights to be uncivilized. As I said: "civilized" is a word with an immense scope. I am sure there are societies that you would consider uncivilized; after all, that is also a word. But if you do not discriminateb in that manner and consider all beings that can walk, talk, and throw a rock as civilized--well, that is your right. I re-emphasize that. We have a right to disagree.

Life continues to go on. Whether or not it is "civilzed" is an opinion.
