Dan,
Re:"AMD can't supply very many mobile chips at this point...."

I hope that situation changes in the next month or so. My feeling is that the "back-to-school" bunch (college & K-12) will be wanting laptops more than anything else. Also the new trend in public schools is to go to laptops on a cart using wireless technology (bring the computers to the students) because that obviates the need to dedicate much needed classroom space for computer labs with their hardwired desktops.

I think I am typical in that I have no desire to upgrade to a new desktop nor will I spring for windows XP (in the near future). But, I will be really interested in purchasing a new laptop. So I hope the A4 performs as well as I hear, and that AMD can supply enough chips at speeds that compete well with Intel's 0.13 micron PIII.
Take care,
Marc
