Elmat,
you are right about convenience, but that is not the only motivation for demand. Especially for people with an info-centric lifestyle who do a lot of number crunching and the like - the "mobility" aspect is secondary.

To those it's a matter of price and bandwidth.. Well I can translate it for me - faster is better (throughput, latency) and 14.4 Kbit what wireless could offer is a joke. And the mobility aspect is quite irrelevant if you need to get hold on a mass of data.

Right now each segment (broadband, wireless) it's having it's own problems (3G woes, xDSL rollout, HFC cable service) but there should be a brighter day ahead - for all of us..
