I used to run. I stopped when I injured a muscle in like my upper left thigh. Funny thing is, the injury wasn't caused by running. Anyway it's been about 5 years, and I've been seriously thinking about starting again. The hardest part is just getting started. It's a great stress reliever, cardio exercise and I also found it to be almost meditative in some respects. When you progress to being able to run like 3 miles or so you get into a zone that is really hard to describe. Anyway, hang in there and take it slow. It's amazing how quickly you will build endurance and be able to run longer distances.
