"..Is this article assuming W-CDMA cell handoff with a GSM cell or a CDMA2000 cell or possibly another W-CDMA cell?.."
----------

I believe the article addresses inter-frequency hard handover from one wCDMA cell to another wCDMA cell.

"..Unfortunately in the WCDMA, it is basically impossible to estimate the round trip delay (between UE and target BS before the handover execution)..."

Oops!

Requiring a typical uplink handover search window that's between 5 and over 12 times as large as for cdma2000, depending on cell site spacing...

Sound's like they'll need lots more cell sites than they're presently planning.

Think a handover search window 500 to over 1200% larger requires additional power? <g>

Now, if networks were only synchronized, they be able to estimate that round trip delay...

As SK suggests that wCDMA networks will face this problem within one year after (if) they launch services, perhaps this implies that network loading is a factor...

Oh Mighty..... are you lurking about?
