Quanta receives "super" order from Dell for 4.5 to 5 million high-end notebooks, shipments to begin around Jan or Feb of next year. Article states Dell is very confident about this latest model. Could it be because of a safer and longer life battery??? <G>

digitimes.com

Excerpt: <<Taiwan-based notebook manufacturer Quanta Computer has landed a OEM order for 4.5 million to five million notebooks from Dell Computer. According to sources, to fulfill this order, from the first quarter of 2002 Quanta is expected to ship 250,000-300,000 units every month and around three million notebooks in total for 2002.

This 14-inch notebook product line from Dell targets the high-end, business segment, and its product life cycle has been estimated at 18 months, lasting from January or February 2002 to between May and July 2003. Because a similar product line has enjoyed great sales performance, selling 200,000 units every month, Dell is very confident about the latest model, expecting sales to reach 250,000 units every month. The company predicts that if the global economy recovers in 2002,
monthly sales could even top 300,000 notebooks.>>

John,
You are the gadget junkie on this thread. You might be interested....

This is way out but the "flexible storage" sounds like an interesting potential application. I've read some on nanotechnology - it sounds exciting but "way out there" and somewhat difficult to comprehend many of the applications.
