Dan, thanks for taking the time to make the issues clear, once and for all. Coincidentally, I've read some other things and it all fits now. I knew that many brokerages were telling customers they could not buy calls and puts and saying it was 'gov't. regulation' when in fact they simply didn't want to deal with it. I had bought the idea, however, that naked options were different because I thought they necessitated margin. Much appreciated. David
