<<but in the end there will always be those who believe that producers must be socially conscious and that the legitimate role of government is to "provide for the common good" by herding in those entrepreneurial actions that go beyond whatever the dominant definition of civic behavior may be at that time.>>

Which is why there will always be nations with governments that oppress their people, and people like you explaining why-well, that's just fine...

TE, I didn't say anything about companies being innocent. I said it is up to the individual to determine if they are or not. If you can't swallow that whole, it is of little concern to me. The collection of personal data on individuals is, in most cases, achieved by sending those stupid surveys with newly purchased merchandise, or through snail mail. If any individual is stupid enough to fill in all of the blanks on those surveys, they deserve to get bilked. I fill out only enough information to receive my warranty, which is minimal. Any question that is too personal, gets marked with a magic marker NOYB,

Providing for the common good of the country is intended to encompass positive moves. What you suggest are negative moves. If the government is allowed to police every detail of every business, the next logical step is for government to police every detail of your personal life. George Washington said that any country that has the power to give it's citizens every thing they need, they have, and will use, the power to take everything they have.

Yes, I speak from the right side of politics. As in CORRECT.
