I remember when they put the warning label on as well and when they banned cigarette advertising from tv. I don't think the label makes much difference either way. I suspect the main reason folks start smoking is peer pressure. Those most susceptible to suggestion adopt the habits of their friends.

When I was a kid they put cigarettes in fire rations and Lucky Strikes donated cartons to the VA hospitals.
