Lets get back to that interesting Ovum study that appeared out of the blue on the CDG sight that we both check regularly, perhaps two weeks ago. << I don't know which was written first. >> It is hard to say when something is written, when what has been written has been reduced to a PDF file, and the document is undated, but it is very easy to tell when the PDF file was created using Acrobat Reader "document info". The PDF file for the Ovum document was created on March 2, 2001. The PDF file for the Qualcomm whitepaper was created on March 16, 2001. I would say that the Ovum study is the "Qualcomm" whitepaper referenced at Cannes, and it was probably avilable at Cannes. Do you agree with that? Looks to me like it was commissioned by Qualcomm, but of course since CDG has always been an extension of Qualcomm's marketing department, perhaps CDG commissioned it or paid for it. Ovum could of course consulted to a German carrier ... but I seriously doubt it. Don't you? Qualomm has sure distanced themselves from this one, which is interesting in itself. Do you agree? CDG doesn't give it much of a descriptor. I'll be honest, I've not given it a very thorough read, just a quick scan. Looks like another POS like the one that we saw earlier, but which appears to be written later, or Nokia's POS. Candidly, this war of whitepapers comparing technologies that are not yet commerialized, gets on my bloody nerves. 1xRTT at 614 kbps in one, and 625 kbps on the forward link (per some bloody standard to be standardized sometime) in the other to make 1xRTT look like it has a close cost per MB, in thta hgokey off the wall scenario. Give me a break. As A.L. Reagan says - "boy does life ever imitate the high art forms we've developed on SI!" ... and I concur with him when he says: "And the verdict, delivered by Judge Market":"ALL DEFENDANTS GUILTY AS CHARGED" - Eric -
