Instead of increasing the military budget ..........spend the money on public hospitals caring for the poor and indigent who will close unless money flows in. Case in point: D.C. General Hospital, the sprawling public facility that has served Washington's impoverished, injured and infected for 195 years, is to close Monday.

The massive complex at Massachusetts Avenue and 19th Street SE has been the linchpin of the District hospital system, relieving private institutions of much of the indigent care burden and forming the front line for the city's wounded and sick.

Interesting how many of our greatest political scandals have come out of Texas. S+L, Energy, JFK assassination, Teapot Dome. Their free-wheeling style has a dark side.
I love many things about Texas and most people there are really decent but when the "good ole boys" control the system boy do they seem to cost the rest of us. It's the dark side of the cowboy spirit. Dirty politics and pigs at the trough. GW brought it out in the state after it had been hibernating during the Anne Richards years. The Texas dems have their own dark past but now Dems in Texas seem an extinct species as the Bush Brigades just took over. Their ecomnomy was in a slump for a long time so I don't blame them for wanting higher oil prices and anothre boom period, but when they got their chance they immediately took it too far.
