Snake Eyes:

It is truly unfortunate that in this day and age of high tech knowledge and protective guidances (even to nutritional messages and bilingual warnings on labels) that many people and well informed consumers still won't pay attention preferring to blindly take chances on their health and welfare.

Since no personal fear large enough exists that bad behavior and deadly habits will result in terrible consequences, many of those that are dependent on social services persist in committing self pollution or destruction and even threatening society at large. The ultimate answer is becoming the law suit against some misused product, John Doe or abused manufacturer.

It appears to me that governments have never been able to protect people against themselves. If careless folks will not correct their costly habits, how can society ever hope to forge ahead with higher standards of living and hopes for the future. Eliminating temptations certainly won't do it because many humans seem to find substitutes for anything immoral, illegal or unhealthy that they wish to do.

The only answers are education at the beginning levels, home, and fear or respect of natural laws. By the time the authorities have to step in, it's often too late. Maybe legislation will work, but then again maybe not? After all even suggestions of a higher law that used to worry some of us are now legally rejected in public places.

If they allow the general patient body to sue the HMOs, what will be the ultimate expense to both time and service for the public at large? Will we become like Britain or Canada in performance? Or worse. Go in for treatment with a lawyer at our side - maybe two, one representing the provider.
