It seems you are quite the optimist. Perhaps you are correct that Americans will once again discover what it means to be American. I on the other hand think it wise not to bet on it. I see an America wherein anyone with more than, say, a third of a million dollars in net liquid assets is threatened, where the poor no longer aspire to honest wealth accumulation and therefore no longer teach their children to better themselves, where people increasingly think because they are poor someone owes them something, and where those with means are increasingly viewed as something akin to slave masters.

I love the America that used to be, and I guess I kinda hope for its return. But my loyalties to that America do not cause me great loyalty to modern dysfunctional Americans. There is a reason many jobs have left America and are even now leaving it. Smart folks know it is better to make money than waste consideration upon a bunch of wealthy, whining poor folks who call themselves Americans but who are as foreign to the nation’s historic ideals as are Communist Russians.
