The GOP put almost every black, hispanic and woman they had on stage at their convention. Shots of the convention floor showed almost 100% white males. The Big Lie of it all is unsettling. In my city the Republicans want to erect a huge power plant next to a thriving black neighborhood and pollute their air for generations to come. This is exactly the kind of disregard for blacks that the fat cat party has. They offer to let them into the party only to use them to trick other blacks. Even Colin Powell disagrees with the Bush social agenda as he clearly pointed out during his convention speech. If it weren't for white liberals on the other hand there wouldn't even be Civil Rights for blacks. As for the Bush tax plan I'll bet 95% of the benefits go to white and 5% to minorities. No help at all to the lower middle-clas working man. Condaleeza Rice is one of the great tokens in this administration. She has little contact with her own people and has made much of her money lately working for Chevron. The ole boys knew she was bought and paid for so they trusted her. They could also use her. And use her they did. Talk about using blacks. That convention used every single one prominent in their party. Blacks are also aware of the election corruption in their neighborhoods in Florida. They know because they remember the way things used to be when Dixie conservatives fought against voting rights for both blacks and earlier women. Only by turning into an inclusive moderate party with real compassion and a real progressive plank will the GOP ever attract more than a few token blacks who are promoted into the ole boys club for political reasons, or the few blacks who just hate being black. Until then the GOP will have to continue to rely on polluting industry soft money and religious conservatives (anti sex types), military hawks, rich elitists and closet racists in order to win national elections. They also have the electoral college system working in their favor which gives states like Idaho, Wyoming and Alaska more electoral votes than they deserve under a true democracy where every vote counts equally. Another group which will turn away from the GOP in coming elections is the young generation which was one of the most hood-winked voter groups of all.
