I recently came across a critique of not only Keynes but Keynsians in general for failing to give credit to the Germans who came up with the idea of deficit spending as a counter-recessionary policy before he did. The explanation given was that Keynes' circle was particularly insular even for the British - but whether or not Keynes actually did or did not know of the German economic theories isn't the question that intrigues me. I'd love to know whether Hitler's policies - which, by the way, worked quite well in the short run - were in any way informed by these theories. At any rate, spending other people's money like crazy is a great way to get out of a recession if you don't mind paying the piper later.
