here's a list of cash-rich dotcoms and those with an asterick are the ones being booted from r2000. BFRE, EPRS, VNWI, and VCNT seem to be the best bets for nice pops in july/august....

'Net Cash
While most of the stocks in the once glorious Internet sector are struggling to stay afloat, the 70 listed below trade at less than the value of the cash on their balance sheets. And none, it's worth noting, carry any long-term debt.

If I take that list of stocks that were on the borderline and divide it into four groups, we find some interesting returns for Friday:
1. Those slated for addition that made it - avg return Friday, 12.44%
Includes, LDCL, LSBC, INKP, TSIC, PTIX, COBZ, USPH, IMSC
2. Those to be added that didn't - avg return Friday, -1.59%
(OGLE, PORT, MSS, PIII)
3. Those to be subtracted that held off fate - avg return Friday -.83%
GAIA, SSSW, HYC, PRDS
4.Those that were scheduled for subtraction that will be subtracted -avg return Friday -2.91%
WPZ, TEN, ARDM, JWL, OWC, FIX

So, could you have traded this? If you took only the stocks that had been perched on the borderline, but which looked like sure things on Thursday, you would have bought IMSC, USPH, COBZ, LDCL, and BELM for an average return of 10.82%. I think I'll trade this next June 30.

Next up, a test of the theory that stocks booted from the index outperform in July.
