Tony - Re: "Sounds like as much a vote of confidence for Microsoft as for Intel. Stratus "

That's a good point.

Maybe Microsoft is finally making it into the upper echelons of OS reliability at the Enterprise level.

Re: "As for AMD, if half the rumors of Athlon crashes are true, a system based on them would probably get you about a 1/2 a nine...during a good week. "

CrackServer and Jack-In-The-Boxx don't seem to mind - after all - they are cheap !

Re: a vote of confidence for Microsoft as for Intel. Stratus has been making ultra high reliability machines for years, like Tandem. This is the first I can remember of that type that uses Microsoft.

Until Microsoft stops releasing several mandatory patches per month, each of which requires an immediate re-boot of the system to make them effective, it isn't going to be a player in this market.

A correctly administered Windows 2000 systems will rarely go more than a few weeks without a re-boot, effectively a controlled system crash, that's required for security patch installation.
