NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- The stock market is poised for an upside open Monday after a difficult close last week that saw the averages end Friday a whisker from session lows.

The averages aren't likely to stray far from the tight range that has been carved out over the past few weeks ahead of the Fed's decision on interest rates, which will hit the tape on Wednesday. While most on Wall Street are banking on a 25-basis-point cut, many are holding out for a move aggressive 1/2-point move.

September S&P 500 futures added 1.90 points, or 0.2 percent, and were trading roughly 3.30 points above fair value, according to HL Camp & Co. Nasdaq futures, meanwhile, eked out a gain of 4.00 points, or 0.2 percent.

Treasury prices moved lower in early action, with the 10-year Treasury note off 1/8 to yield ($TNX) 5.13 percent while the 30-year government bond slipped 1/8 to yield ($TYX) 5.58 percent.

Monday will see the release of May existing home sales, which are expected to fall to 5.16 million. Also on tap this week: May durable goods orders, May new home sales, June consumer confidence and the final reading of first-quarter gross domestic product. Checking the currency market, dollar/yen shed 0.3 percent to 123.91 while euro/dollar climbed 0.5 percent to 0.8612.

You know it is true that you can learn a lot by just listening.......Something I had needed to learn to do for a long time....(listen)...........a reason for my not posting as much as I use to. :-)
