Rob, <EV7 is a done deal and many major contracts are depending on it as a deliverable (Sandia, Los Alamos, etc.) and delivery is assured.>

Many major OEMs, at least ten by last count, are also counting on McKinley as a deliverable. Yet you insinuate that Intel wants to abandon McKinley for EV7. That is a pipe dream by any measure.

Rob - Re:"System bandwidth is an indicator EV7 is stronger."

The lack of design wins shows that the EV7 is a total dog -- arf, arf.

Rob - If you listened to the press conference, Intel is NOT buying Alpha - they are getting the people and licensing the IP rights related to a variety of Compaq technology. It looks like Compaq will just drop Alpha after EV7, based on the roadmap and comments from both Capellas and Otillini. EV8 was never mentioned. Capellas went into some detail on Alpha products and specifically said there will be 2 speed refreshes, and the EV7 products. Also everything will be moved to Itanium by 2004 and many will be moved sooner.

For better or for worse, this looks like the end of Alpha.
