the example i cited is for aol users. i can't say what other email programs or isp's have this particular feature.

but i did mention receipts, and you are familiar with them, aren't you? notifications for delivered and/or read email are returned to sender via email in almost all email clients, i believe. for example...

fcs.iastate.edu

tells the sender when the mail was delivered, then if it was read. and thus, my point. delivered can be and often is distinguished from read. read is what the spammer wants to see. email can be deleted before being read. this is a deterent.
