You missed some keys points. Companies are in business to maximize profit. That's what they do.

You don't like that? Do you want your power delivered by the equivalent of, say, the FBI? ATF? DOD?
I worked on an isolated radar site many years ago. The power generation was done by Civil Service employees. We were up and down like a balloon. And it wasn't just being down when the Pentagon was screaming for data.
Those guys were supposed to provide regulated power. Yeah, right. We were constantly having electronics damaged by power surges when they came back up. Is this what you want?

But let's get back to those points:
What makes you think there would have been an 800% price spike if the full cost had been passed along? When the prices started rising rapidly, consumers and businesses would have cut back sharply- -much more sharply than 15%- -and prices would never reach 800%.
Well, there's the conservation you want. Yes?

I'm not going to argue that energy producers have not taken advantage of CAs situation- -they have. But the people of this state first put themselves in a situation where they could be screwed. Largely for your wonderful environmental reasons, they stopped construction of power plants for many years. Had this state had excess generating capacity when those caps came off, you wouldn't see anything like the current situation. Do you dispute that?
Yes? No?

The energy consumption of Western Civilization has been increasing steadily since the Industrial Revolution. You might decrease consumption for a while by conservation, but soon you will surpass the pre-conservation level. what do you propose to do then? Shut down civilization?
Shall we turn off the lights and move back into the caves?
