Lew, sorry it took so long for me too respond. I had to move my Bussiness to the other side of an Ocean. I am no longer in California.

First I'd like to say Woff! Woff! and double Woff!

I would tend to take your post more seriously if there were a single item in it that was verifiable.
"In Boulder Creek a local wirless intenet provider"

What wireless provider? What speed of service are they offering? What are they charging for the monthly service?

If you do an engine search for "internet highway" Boulder creek you will get a web page hosted by Internet Highway, you can click once to get the home page of the Internet highway. They offer wireless at 128k. Pac bell was not offering Boulder Creek DSL so Internet Highway went with a wireless service to address this issue. $300 a year I believe is the price. I talked to the people at internet highway as the service first was available and they were getting many requests from Richochet subscribers to extend their service into Santa Cruz. MCOM only offers 28 k in Sant Cruz and has no plans to go to 128k. Lot of unhappy Ricochet subscribers in Santa Cruz.

In the Silicon Valley area a local provider is offering wireless DSL service for $10 a month."

Which company is offering it? Is it ad-free? How is DSL a competitor to Ricochet except for the new lower price plans for local service areas?

"places have attenae that provide service in the cafe and for about 100 yards out"

How is this fixed wireless a competitor for Ricochet? What does it take to deploy this technology (that covers about 100 yards) over the entire Bay Area?

airwave.com go here to find the company. My understanding is that it does not take much more than a DSL line and simple low power radio technology to offer the service. Hence the low price. People I spoke to that tried both services said airwave was a radical improment over Ricochet in terms of stability. This service would cover all my needs. I needed wireless because I run around the bay area all day in a car. I can now just park close to any place that has airwave and I can log on. Places that offer the service strech from San Francisco to Silicon Valley and now I believe San Jose. Local companies all over the Nation might be springing up in the near future to compete with MCOM.

The former CFO is the person who told me about all the local quirks that the different local towns were throwing at them. After talking to the former CFO ( who quit because his stock options were shrinking every day ) I decided to hang out in the lobby of the New MCOM building in San Jose. Had a very interesting conversation with a MCOM lawyer who writes contract agreements to the resellers. He was the one who told me that one city they were claiming service in was only one square mile of downtown. I believe it was Philly and this was about a year ago. He also said that outside of the Bay Area they had virtually no subscribers in any significant numbers. He also told me of an incident in which the CEO of the company could not get a richochet modem to run a in concert with a slide show when he was giving a presentation to some potential large investors.

I know about San Francisco raising the rent on MCOM because an MCOM Employee left a message on my awnsering machine in a desperate tone of voice suggesting that all richochet subscribers should go to the next city council meeting and protest.

MCOM has some problems and they are not being upfront with the stockholders about the problems.
