I'm not a particularly big fan of welfare, but we had children starving to death in the America before it was implemented.

Had charities been able to keep up, welfare never would have happened in the first place.

I agree with you 100%. I hate hearing people spout about cutting social programs screws the poor. If that money was being used by private individuals and organizations, much more could be done, and more efficiently. I don't see why it is more acceptable for the government to rob you and use your money to "care for the poor" (which it does not do), than to have that money in their pockets to give to the cause of their choice.

Its completely beyond me how some people think.
