9:45AM ET Modestly positive start to the week with the Nasdaq outperforming in the early going. Strength has been noted in the semiconductor, networking, Internet and computer-hardware sectors. The Merrill Lynch cautionary note on major IC companies has had relatively little impact but the report from the WSJ that Compaq (CPQ +0.7%) is preparing for a significant restructuring appears to have given a boost to the box makers. The article suggested that the company will shift its focus to services with the plan to increase revenue to roughly one-third of total revenue from the current 1/5.
