Fujitsu PC Corporation Unveils Latest Additions to Industry's First Touch Screen Mini-Notebook
A Full-Featured Mini-Notebook Weighing Under 3 Pounds, FPC's LifeBook(TM) B Series Adds Computing Muscle Without Compromising Size
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 25, 2001-- Fujitsu PC Corporation (FPC), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Fujitsu, Limited (TSE:6702), today released the most powerful version of its award-winning, mini-notebook -- LifeBook(TM) B Series.
Ideal for the mobile professionals in the field and on the road, the small yet versatile LifeBook B Series features a 10.4`` SVGA TFT touch screen with pen input for easy navigation and data access. Its sleek body measures 9.92 inches wide by 8.5 inches deep by 1.26 inches high and weighs less than three pounds, making it perfect for productive computing on the go.
``The integration of a touch screen increases the overall appeal of the LifeBook B Series for mobile professionals and is especially useful in applications such as sales or customer relations, where the mini-notebook's intuitive pen input facilitates efficient access and navigation of customer data.'' said Sara Nelson, FPC's vice president of marketing. ``Additionally, its compact form factor and bright screen make it easy to share data with customers on the spot.''
Although the LifeBook B Series retains its compact size, it now boasts a new, more powerful ultra-low voltage 600MHz mobile Pentium® III processor featuring Intel® SpeedStep(TM) technology for improved performance and extended battery life. Users have the choice of either Microsoft® Windows® 98 Second Edition or Windows 2000 Professional pre-installed.
The LifeBook B Series units are now shipping in two recommended configurations and can be customized to meet individual user needs by utilizing FPC's Configure To Order (CTO) Program. The estimated street price starts at $2,199. FPC's LifeBooks are sold through FPC's retail and reseller channels(1) as well as at www.fujitsupc.com or 1-877-FPC-DIRECT.
Users can benefit from the mini-notebook's storage capacity, which exceeds many of its full-size competitors. The LifeBook B Series offers users a 30GB or 20GB hard drive as well as the choice of 256MB or 128MB system memory.
This increased storage capacity allows mobile professionals to store large presentations and other miscellaneous files on the mini-notebook's local drive eliminating the need to access a central server while on the road.
However, for those instances when the user needs to connect with the office or central server, FPC offers a wide variety of communication options to extend the functionality of its mini-notebook. All LifeBook B Series include a connectivity combo port consisting of either a built-in 56K(2) V.90 modem and 10/100 base-Tx Ethernet for high-speed Internet access or the combination of a modem and IEEE 1394 for fast digital downloads.
The award-winning LifeBook B Series has become popular among a wide variety of mobile professionals because of its highly versatile, portable and ultra compact design. Adding to the appeal is an enhanced magnesium-alloy casing contributing to the notebooks overall durability and lowering its total cost of ownership.
The adoption of an innovative touch screen quick and easy navigation coupled with an improved anti-reflective coating for improved outdoor viewing increases productivity in any type of environment. FPC's mini-notebook also features a security panel and built-in Smart Card(3) Reader for additional protection.
Other popular features include two standard three-cell Lithium ion batteries, an external USB floppy disk drive, an optional CD-ROM drive and an optional six-cell battery, as well as two Type II and one Type III PC Card slots, which makes the LifeBook B Series ``wireless ready'' with the assistance of a third-party wireless PC modem Card. Its port replicator further expands the number of ports offered.
An optional USB digital camera makes this mini-notebook ideal for recording and documenting events for insurance adjusters such as automobile damage. The miniature camera also can be attached to the top of the display, making a quick and convenient video conferencing system.
Service and Support
The LifeBook B Series incorporates the Fujitsu Service Assistant, a Web-based diagnostic and resolution application preloaded on the system. The Fujitsu Service Assistant provides support solutions to the most common problems that may be experienced with just a simple click of the mouse. The diagnostic program was designed to increase customer satisfaction by delivering faster, more effective service, thus avoiding user frustrations usually associated with slower, non-technology-based service programs.
Fujitsu LifeBook notebooks are backed by a one-year International Limited Warranty for U.S. and Canadian customers. The warranty includes technical support, 24 hours a day, seven days a week4. In addition, users can add First Cabin(SM) service and support options, including service upgrades that provide priority service, on-site service plan or a screen protection plan.
