It's hard, imo, to debate Merrill's metrics without seeing their report. My real question has to do with whether or not the price competition is a longer term trend, or much shorter as it relates to the current macroeconomic picture and/or the NAS initiatives of other firms.

This is exactly what i was trying to figure out when i posted this over on the fool msg board. I'm not sure if NTAP's barriers are large enough that they'll continue to hold their marketshare and keep margins high.

All that said, NetApp is now more reasonably priced and margin pressure is less of a concern than when NTAP was at 150 and had a p/e over 450, IMO
