having more than one supplier got it's advantages. Compaq technology may not be as popular as intel's but it got real value.
Intel had to offer something in return. No matter what they offer that would make compaq more competitive.

no problemo, compaq gets a half, hp gets a half and dell gets a half too. If there would be few more halfs left then maybe gateway can get one <ggg>

clue: dell is laying off workers
