We're not going to have any war over abortion. Chris is just in government-overthrow mode again.

The status quo is that abortion is legal. The majority of people want to leave it that way. Most of the politicians who preach to the pro-life base probably want to keep it that way, too. Making abortion illegal is very effective as a platform plank and as a righteous wail, much better than as a law. When the Reps took over Washington in January, we didn't see any proposed legislation to make abortion illegal, did we. The government, however pro-life its office-holders might be, isn't going to start that war.

As for the grass roots, the pro-abortion crowd has no reason to start a war. They're in control. Some of the more extreme among the pro-life crowd may be so inclined as we've had incidents of terrorism from them, but they won't find enough compatriots to produce a viable war. There aren't many people, however committed to saving the lives of fetuses, who are going to start a Civil War-like bloodbath amongst born people to further that cause. We're all too comfy for that.
