Business is a polite kind of war, a point often forgotten by soft-hearted prosperous Americans. The Euros object to the GE and Worldcom mergers while we allow them to freely come into our economy. Lots of other examples. The Japanese are worse offenders.

It's the difference between preaching about open markets and actually opening them.>>>>>>>>>>

You could substitute the word trade for business. It is all about trade, always has been, always will be. The Euros object to anything that will shift the balance of trade away from them. That imo is what this is all about. It isn't so much that they want to avoid compelling technology, but rather protect their lead in the telecommunications standards arena. The longer that they can postpone the inevitable worldwide adoption of CDMA the longer they will maintain the trading advantage.
