Hi Max,

That was an immensely thoughtful post, and heartbreaking.

The AIDS situation in Africa is obscene. Our government's unwillingness to focus on AIDS in Africa is horrifying. The fact that, even in this country, AIDS has moved only from a death sentence preceded by terrible suffering to a life sentence on marginally less suffering, sickens me.

But is life good? Isn't the answer "yes" for all of us; the sick, the disenfranchised, the forgotten? Should we ever think of it as anything else? What gives us hope if not those words? What would the world be like if we didn't believe this?

I would rather believe that life is good, despite being riddled with (and at times overrun by) pain and injustice.

What other ways are there to think about it?
