Focus shifts to the OSes <<Other than that, HP has found - like Compaq - and like IBM - the underlying hardware is only the vehicle for delivering the software. So, HP and Compaq and IBM - all have a chance to deliver new OSs, applications and servers based on the underlying Intel/IA64 architecture. >> This is what I meant by saying the focus of the battle will now shift to the OSes: Intel supplies the racetrack and we get to see how Microsoft, IBM, Dell, Compaq, and H-P perform on it. (Oh, and Sun has their dirt track out off of Route 42, over near the chicken processing plant. 'Course, not many people go there since the fancy new track got built.) --Tim May
