GoldAvenue launches gold trading web platform

LONDON, June 26 (Reuters) - Internet portal GoldAvenue (www.goldavenue.com) has launched a web-based trading platform for gold transactions, it said on Tuesday.

In a statement, Swiss-based GoldAvenue said its new GAExchange platform would enable professionals in the gold market to purchase a wide range of physical gold products and to perform spot trades and loans.

Real-time pricing, reports and analyses are also part of the package, it said.

"We have taken the well-established principles of trading and used Internet technology to make them more efficient and cost-effective. We believe this is just the beginning of what the Internet can do for the gold business," GoldAvenue CEO Mehdi Barkhordar said in the statement.

Under the project, a subsidiary of J.P. Morgan Chase & Co (JPM) would be the counter-party for all bullion transactions, with the GAExchange acting as agent.

J.P. Morgan Chase, gold miner AngloGold Ltd (ANGJ) and Switzerland's PAMP (Produits Artistiques de Metaux Precieux S.A.), the world's largest private gold refiner, founded GoldAvenue in April 2000.
