<<It is my dream to take 3 mos and drive to Alaska on the Alcan highway then tour the state. >>

My mother's cousin did that when the road first opened to the public. It was all gravel then and a long haul. They had a bus and pulled a Jeep, WWII surplus. They used a winch on the Jeep to pull the bus through the bad spots. Carried a mounted spare for every tire on the vehicles and bought all new ones in Alaska. Hauled their gas in cans. Her husband only had one hand after an incident with a combine.

There is lots of wildlife on the Alcan. My boss just got back from a run. An alternative route is the Cassiar highway, which is further west. There might be a lot of construction on the Cassiar. Check with the Canadian authorities before you plan a trip. Construction delays can be very aggravating, and you might be able to avoid them.

JDN,

The Phillipines are having a bit too much turmoil right now to suit me. If I go into the jungle, I want to be able to leave when I want to.
