What do these large buys after hours mean to our price of NT for tomorrow ?

Mutual Funds report their Quarterlies after June 30th , They may try to shuffle their NT out of one fund into another to record a sell in one and a buy in another. This creates a Tax loss in one fund ,and a cheap buy-in in another. They had to do it by today in canada because of the 3 day settlement rule, in the US they have until Friday (last day of the month ) in order to remove it from the books . Many Funds will unload their large losers ahead of a report so that the unit holders don't see it as a listed stock the fund owns.

That is one theory ,

Another is that someone is accumulating through various houses , could be funds who see this as a good entry point, or another company looking to pick up NT and merge.

Another theory is someone wants the hell out of the stock and the only buyers of large sizes were found at this price range.

Typically , Large Crosses are an indication of impending move, for the longs they hope its up, and for the shorts they hope its down. No one knows exactly what the crosses mean until many days and weeks after their execution . Up until that point , its all speculation. Normally , large crosses after an extended move up is looked upon as distribution and signals a looming top. Large crosses after an extended move down signals Accumulation and a bottom on the horizon. The only exception is a company with an uncertain future and risk of bankruptcy , then large crosses near a bottom can also signal a rush for the exit doors.

My personal opinion is that I do not see NT declaring bankruptcy and see them as more of a takeover target as each day passes. They have more value than Lucent which was offered a Stock swap with alcatel at $10 Us. This is looking more and more like another company that I watched unfold from hero to Zero and finally got taken over by Alcatel, the same thing is unfolding with NT. That stock was Newbridge. Newbridge cannot even be compared to NT as far a its size and its product, but the story is unfolding almost identically and we will see if in the end , NT can escape being taken over or wether Canada loses another Canadian company to foreigners.
