I read a couple of reports where analyst said that this deal will hurt AMD (and SUN). Others said it wouldn't affect AMD. But, Jerry had been saying all along that they want to have a product portfolio where AMD can go against Intel in *all* segments. And even though in the short term, if AMD has no presence in the server market, they will have to have presence in the market. The Intel-CPQ alliance has just made it very difficult. The hurt can happen for AMD if (when?) Intel will start making money on the high end to finance the cost cutting and price war (resulting in lower ASP for both Intel and AMD on the low-end) and to compete against AMD on the low end. No ?
