I think that Microsoft, Borland, IBM, the Free Software Foundation, and SUN supply most of the compilers actually used by anybody.

Compaq folding the Alpha program was a loss for AMD, but Microsoft and Borland do make development tools, too. People keep posting that they expect the Compaq team to go to Intel or AMD, I'd expect many of them will go to Microsoft.

Compaq was not the only source for compilers.
