Dear Nadine: I ADMIT IMHO the best idea that Clinton had was to reduce medicare age to 55 YET have those interested in joining under 65 pay the entire premium (estimated at approx $400 a month) until they reached 65. This would have been a win win situation IMHO. Why, cause ON AVERAGE people from 55 -65 are healthier than those 65+. Thus if they younger people were paying the full premium in effect they would be underwriting a portion of medicare for older people YET the premium at $400 a month would have been FAR LOWER due to the TREMENDOUS POOL then anything they could buy on their own. Sadly, the Republicans voted it down and yes I am a Republican and Yes, I was ANGRY AS HELL. JDN

Regarding Medical Insurance:
.
No, I didn't see the actual proposal, Nadine. Is there a web link for it that is the proposal in its' entirety?

BTW, what I am talking about is NOT a state sponsored pool....

I am talking about creating a pool from the more than 1100 different insurance companies that underwrite insurance for our government, as well as large company, employees.....and having individuals as well as small business employees having access to that pool!!!

For instance, about 5 years ago, when I did some research on this, the US Senate employees had 16 (!!!) different medical insurances from which to choose.

Since the US Taxpayers pay the salaries for these folks, they could be called the US Taxpayer Company, and of course, then qualify to purchase insurance from the same insurance companies.

NOT socialized medicine....Just provides a much larger risk pool, AND provides the consumer the same premiums that the Government offers it's employees....

If EVERYONE here on this SI board alone called the US Senate, and then the US House, to find out what their insurance choices were, I think we would all be simply amazed at the w-i-d-e choices available.....

Then if EVERYONE called called those same insurance companies to find the rate for a small company (say under 5 employees, then again, say under 25 employees), one could rapidly determine the problem that Americans face....
