Flat open at 2068, steady climb in COMPX every since. Telecom sector is up due to a number of contract wins by RSTN and EXTR. JNPR benefiting from NT cancellation of core router project.
11:30AM ET The tone of the market is positive but the activity level has been reduced. The Nasdaq has taken over the percent gain lead over the Dow with minor gains in several sectors (computer-hardware, networking, Internet, software) helping to offset the slide in the semiconductor index. The warning from Xilinx (XLNX -3.18) just three weeks after they last provided guidance has spooked this group to some extent with ALTR (-0.72), NVLS (-1.15), and AMAT (-0.96) also weighing. The warning from Vitesse Semi (VTSS +1.39) for Q3, the lack of visibility and still high levels of customer inventory.
