One of my favorite hobbies is quoting conservatives; they are sometimes a source of inspiration.

This is an interesting story....

Author Says He Lied in Book on Anita Hill
_____From The Post_____

David Brock, who made his name trashing Anita Hill after the Clarence Thomas confirmation hearings, now says he lied -- and he's sorry.

The formerly right-wing author, in a forthcoming book, says he "lost my soul" in printing allegations he knew to be untrue. Brock writes that he was "dumping virtually every derogatory -- and often contradictory -- allegation I had collected on Hill into the vituperative mix."

Brock now charges that Supreme Court Justice Thomas used him to spread derogatory information about one of Thomas's critics -- an allegation strongly denied yesterday by the man who Brock says was the intermediary between them.

"Thomas was complicit in an effort to discredit another witness against him with negative personal information, which is exactly what he claimed the Anita Hill forces had done to him," Brock said in an interview. Thomas declined to comment through a court spokeswoman.

Brock's new book, "Blinded by the Right," which continues his recent renunciation of his conservative past, is excerpted in the August issue of Talk magazine....."

In your opinion, do you think that the GOP controlled House is against free trade?

From the AP Wires...

Bush Handed Setback on Mexico Trade
by ALAN FRAM
Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush suffered an embarrassing setback in his drive for freer trade with Mexico with a House vote to limit Mexican truckers' access to U.S. roads. But lawmakers predicted the restrictions will be eased before becoming law.

In a move that surprised the Teamsters union and business interests on either side of the issue, the House voted 285-143 on Tuesday to bar the Transportation Department from issuing safety permits that would let Mexican trucks operate throughout the United States.

The Senate has yet to vote on the issue.

As part of the 8-year-old North American Free Trade Agreement, Bush had announced plans to let Mexican trucks begin making deliveries throughout this country starting next January. They currently are restricted to a narrow commercial zone just north of the Mexican border.......

One of the things that has been particularly appealing is his dispensing of the diplomatic gobbly-gook associated with international policies. Direct and to the point. A man that doesn't mince words and calls it as he sees it. He certainly changed my mind about Putin [former head of the KGB] when he said.

I looked the man [Putin] in the eye and found him to be straightforward and trustworthy. GW Bush

As an afterthought on the Clarence Thomas story. I wonder, if the allegation is true whether that would be an impeachable offense? Complicity in spreading false information to obtain the successfull nomination to the Supreme Court seems to be a pretty serious matter. Do you think that the Senate should investigate this?
