I wouldn't call them vestiges. I think most humans are that way, and are probably going to stay that way. Jaynes seems to think we've changed- and I don't. I think out technology has changed, but the nature of people does not appear to be changing. I think people are pretty much what people were. In fat times they are generous and relatively "nice" to be around, and in lean times they are the most dangerous animals.
