Dear H: Well, I am married to a filipina and she seems to understand Spanish pretty well. She is a Cebuana maybe its her language that is similar to Spanish. Cebu is the place Magellan landed and planted the cross in the Philippines. It is also the birthplace of Catholicism in the Philippines. The cross still exists, it was made of ironwood and is now encased and they built a cathedral around it. JDN
