The highway analogy one step further

You have a 4 lane highway to a small desert town.
You increase it to 1190 lanes
No way anyone would ever use all those lane until someone builds Las Vegas at one end and LA on the other, including the on ramps (metro access).

Two 155 mb/s lines to get "decent" video resolution on a single video call?

But it's true that in the long term, virtually all network bandwidth will be occupied by video. There will be a lot of other important things, but video will be what drives the thirst for bandwidth.

We have to keep in mind that the state of connectivity for home users is about where the home PC was with 8 bit processors. There is so far to go it isn't funny to get to a "comfort level" like what we enjoy in home processor speeds, memory and disk space.

Someone once did a back of the envelope calculation that showed that if the library of congress were digitized, 99.7% of the space would be for films.

The question is whether MFNX will be one of the ones that survives. If they make it thru this build out phase and get to profitability, I suspect that they will be.

I found this from the most recent 10Q on how MFNX derives revenue..

<<We provide dedicated fiber optic infrastructure, high-bandwidth internet
connectivity and managed internet infrastructure services for our communications
intensive customers. We are a facilities-based provider of end-to-end optical
solutions that offer virtually unlimited, UNMETEREDbandwidth at a fixed cost to our
communications carrier, corporate and government customers in the United States
and Europe.>>

I also waded thru Global Crossing's 10K but found nothing definite on how they charge.

But if MFNX ain't metering the data and is just leasing out the lines, it doesn't look good for a revenue upturn.
