[World DRAM Price] Rate of Decline Accelerates for Volume Users and Spot Prices
June 27, 2001 (TOKYO) -- Significant drops were witnessed in the spot prices of 128Mb DRAMs (PC133, 16M x 8 bits) between May 10 and June 8, and the prices for the large-volume users dropped as well.

According to a worldwide DRAM price survey conducted by ICIS-LOR, based in London, Houston and Singapore, the 30-day rolling average prices of 128Mb DRAMs (May 10 and June 8) for large-volume users was US$4.14 in North America, US$3.61 in Europe, and US$3.80 in Asia.

Compared with the previous week (30-day rolling average prices up to June 1), the prices fell 6.49 percent in North America, 6.09 percent in Europe, and 2.91 percent in Asia. As for the memory-module prices, the spot price of 128MB DIMMs (PC133) fell 7.79 percent from the previous week to US$23.79, declined 4.67 percent to US$28.04 in Europe, and fell 7.26 percent to US$23.38 in Asia.

Despite an alarming oversupply, production of motherboards for desktop PCs is recovering in Taiwan.

It is unclear as to whether their increased production is meant to match the increased demand or the expected increase in demand as is usually seen in the latter half of year. However, it is hard to believe that they will take a risk of stockpiling at this moment by producing motherboards.

OT: The Fed says there is no inflation risk. The long bond says there is. Who'se right?
