biz.yahoo.com

CHICAGO (AP) -- Soybean prices leaped in early dealings Wednesday on the Chicago Board of Trade, responding to soaring demand. Grains also rose sharply.

Soybean futures zoomed upward from the opening bell after the government reported a record high soybean crush for May. Traders also snatched up contracts as the result of a bullish atmosphere going into Friday's release of a key U.S. Department of Agriculture report. Corn posted solid gains on the outlook for warmer, drier weather in the Midwest next week. Wheat extended its price increase from the previous session. Wheat for July delivery rose 1 1/2 cent to $2.49 3/4 a bushel; December corn rose 2 3/4 cents to $2.06 1/2 a bushel; July oats rose 1 3/4 cent to $1.09 a bushel; July soybeans rose 4 cents to $4.61 a bushel. Beef and pork futures declined modestly in early trading on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.

August live cattle fell .23 cent to 74.42 cents a pound; August feeder cattle fell .15 cent to 91.95 cents a pound; August lean hogs fell .55 cent to 68.85 cents a pound; July frozen pork bellies fell .92 cent to 94 cents a pound.
