The best way to predict the future is to invent it.

Just ask Dr. J. and Dr. V.

<< I understand that thing about predicting the future, but cannot understand this "the high operating margins they (the Finns??) have grown accustomed to" >>

I'm an investor. I can. Painfully.

<< They (still the finns) have predicted the operating margins in much more complex terms for many, many moons, not just like simply growing accustomed, whatever that means. >>

Not just "the finns" (Nokia in this instance) ... Cisco on the Silicone Valley side in another instance.

... and in this case "the finns" issued a last minute profit warning for the quarter, just like the Silicone Valley guys did 6 months back, and the Silicone Valley guys are far from seeing daylight.

So ...

it appears the Finns have realized that it will no longer be the hardware that will ensure the high operating margins they have grown accustomed to, but rather what a handset terminal can do.

The software as differentiate ... nothing new about that.

So ...

Hence the need to explore new sources of revenue. Exploiting content appears now to be Nokia's new strategic direction.

Makes sense to me ... but can't yet say "Club Nokia" will accomplish that ... but Jorma promised to guide on that later this year.

So ....

Stay tuned.
