Re: "My concern and Intels as well is that VIA will put out a muck up beta chipset for the P4 and tarnish the P4s pristine image?"

Hey - VIA has put out a sheeeeetload of MUCKED-UP AthWiper chip sets - all you DROIDS just love them !!

So why would VIA dreck tarnish Intel's P4 reputation when it shines up the AMD AthWiper?

Jimbo - Re:"Didn't Intel pull VIAs license for the Pentium something once before and VIA circuvented iit with a NSM cross license?."

VIA did renege on the terms of its P3 license. Intel then filed a patent suit and an ITC action. In the end, VIA settled with Intel, paying money and stopping production of unlicensed parts.

The claim of an NSM license based on the Cyrix purchase did not hold water.

Jim,

in re VIA and P4chipset

Remember NSM? After NSM purchased Cyrix, NSM claimed that they too could produce a PII uP. Did NSM ever produce any chips?

Intellectual Property, i.e. patents and trade secrets, are a hurdle to producing anything. However, even if VIA has such, can they engineer a chipset?
