Hmmmmm ! Do you mean that AMD is a scavenger , like a hyena
or a vulture !

I doubt that Sledgehammer/Clawhammer will make inroads into the 64bit server space. The complexity of server verification is enormous and it requires potential customers to spend a huge effort to verify and debug the hardware and software. [ Low level hardware and software problems are extremely painful to resolve and take ages]. So I doubt if AMD can succeed there. I believe that the the long pilot production of Itanium and delays in the UltraSparc are due to the difficulty in finding and identifying the low level problems, which need to be eliminated to meet the server reliability requirements

However the x86-64 can be a threat for consumer level 64bit applications, whenever those applications happen. If those applications materialize within the next four years, AMD can make a lot of money of the x86-64.

AMD has historically not been comfortable at pioneering new markets. Its forte has been good execution in a well defined market. It may finally decide to clone the Itanium hardware to leverage the growing software base of the Itanium.
