Does the German post office have a monopoly on ordinary mail Yes, the monopoly still exists. Also does the German government own a majority position in the company? Yes, it does. But as I said, it's a steady progress. For instance, the government had owned a majority of Deutsche Telekom (DT) in the beginning. But following the VoiceStream (VSTR) acquisition the government stake has dropped below the 50% level. The same will happen with the Deutsche Post sooner or later.
