No doubt this is true, but children at expensive boarding schools generally have certain advantages not available to the poor. Moreover, even emotionally abandoned rich kids have some healthy family pressure placed upon them to achieve academically. Contrariwise in many poor minority homes the pressures are against academic achievement. It is really quite baffling to see. But it exists and is ubiquitous in some minority cultures.
