Justice Dept. pleased by part of Microsoft ruling

WASHINGTON, June 28 (Reuters) - The U.S. Justice Department said on Thursday it was pleased that an appeals court agreed that Microsoft Corp. (NasdaqNM:MSFT - news) engaged in illegal conduct to hold a monopoly over personal computer operating systems.

``We are pleased that the Court of Appeals found that Microsoft had engaged in illegal conduct to maintain its operating system monopoly,'' the Justice Department said in a statement.

``We are reviewing the court's opinion and considering our options,'' the agency said.

Earlier on Thursday the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia overturned a lower court order that would have split Microsoft, the world's biggest software company, into two parts.

The court also threw out findings that the company had tried to monopolize the market for Internet browsers.
